Find your real mother

Find your real mother

To find our real mother, in Christ, we have to to go to Galatians 4:21-26 where it is written: Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic.

For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar- for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children- but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Here we see that God loves us because He is love, and not because we are obedient and lovely.

The law as mother

When we have the law as a mother, we will be trying to be obedient to God in our own strength or in our own willpower but we will fall short due to our sin nature. The law was given to us to be our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

The role of the law as a tutor was to teach us to fear the Lord but its side-effects, guilt and condemnation, were killing us by debilitating us so that we will commit more sins. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under the law as our tutor or mother.

Grace as mother

The grace of God is the heart of the Gospel and as our mother, in Christ Jesus, it gives us the righteousness that comes by faith. There are two kinds of righteousness, the righteousness by faith and the righteousness of the law.

Righteousness by faith is based on God’s gift through Christ Jesus to us, according to 2Corinthians 5:21. The righteousness of the law is based on performance and is self-righteousness.

In Romans 9:30-32 it is written: What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith; but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Why?

Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. for they stumbled at that stumbling stone.

The only thing that we have to offer when grace is our mother, in Christ Jesus, is faith in what Jesus has done for us. Jesus paid a debt for us that we couldn’t pay and He gave us a righteousness that we couldn’t earn.

The end of religion

When we receive a revelation from God that we have to go after faith righteousness and not performance righteousness, it will bring us to the end of religion in our lives. Religion is nothing else than trying to receive salvation from God and to please God through performance.

As religious people, we think that we are entitled to receive from God through our good deeds. But in 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 it is written: But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.

And the base things of the world and the things that are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.

So we have seen that the children of God who have grace as their mother, they obey God by faith working through love and the children of God who have the law as their mother, they try to obey God by self-righteousness which is a legalistic act.
