Holy Spirit as Guide

Holy Spirit as Guide

A guide is a kind of mentor and a mentor is someone who can give us short-cuts to success. So a mentor is someone we need for his knowledge, experiences, and connections.

In this case, the Holy Spirit shares His knowledge, experiences, and connections with us and that’s why we can consider Him as our Guide or Mentor.

Some ministries of the Holy Spirit

  • Teacher (Luke 12:12/John 14:26)
  • Remembrancer (John 14:26)
  • Guide (John 16:13/Romans 8:14)
  • Administrator (Acts 13:2)
  • Regulator (John 16:8-11)

The Holy Spirit as Guide or Mentor

In John 14:16-17 and John 16:13-14 Jesus promises the Holy Spirit as Guide to His disciples.

John 14:16-17

And I Will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

John 16:13-14

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

The consequences of the guidance of the Holy Spirit

When the Holy Spirit guides us we will be confirmed as sons of God. We will also be confirmed as righteous by grace through faith and not by law through fleshly works.

In Romans 8:14-17 it is written: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father”.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

So the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth and He will lead us to be right-minded sons of God and He will lead us to live righteously under His guidance.

Tasks of the sons of God

As sons of God, we have to testify of Jesus under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and we have to reign in life by the abundance of grace through faith, based on the gift of righteousness, and that, also under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

In John 15:26-27 it is written: But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

And in Acts 1:8 it is written: But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

In Romans 5:17 it is also written: For if by the one man’s offence death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Conclusion

So if you, in all humility, submit yourself to God in a spirit of dependency, then God the Father, as the vinedresser, and Jesus Christ, as the vine, will give the Holy Spirit, as the living water, the space to let you bear the fruits that will glorify Jesus as the God who saves.

In John 7:38-39 it is written: He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.
