How to be like Jesus
To be like Jesus we have to think like Him because as a man thinks in his heart so is he. So to be like Jesus in our condition we have to think like Him, while we are spiritual, already, like Him if we have accepted Him as our Lord and Saviour.
How to think like Jesus
To think like Jesus we have to accept two things. First, we have to know and believe that as new born people, we have the mind of Christ in us and second, we have to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.
In 1 Corinthians 2:16 it is written: For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
And in Romans 12:1-2 it is written: I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
And this Christ likeness is produced by The Holy Spirit who will transform us from one level of glory to a higher level of glory.
In 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 it is written: Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Some characteristics of the mind of Christ
To be like Jesus we have to think like Jesus, so, in our thinking, we have to be under authority like Him, we have to forgive like Him, we have to love like Him, and we have to serve others like Him.
In Philippians 2:5-8 it is written: Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
And in Colossians 3:12-13 it is written: Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
And in John 15:12 it is written: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
And in 1 John 4:19 it is written: We love Him because He first loved us.
In John 13:14-15 it is also written: If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Christ likeness is not produced by our willpower but by the indwelling of Christ, through the Holy Spirit, where we allow Christ to live in us and through us. Christ will live in us when we choose to give Him the space to do so.
