How to overcome lust

How to overcome lust

To overcome lust you have to deny your confidence in your flesh, you have to prepare your heart, you have to resist the enemy and you don’t have to worry about the future. Those four things make the strategy to resist sin, lust or any addiction.

How to deny your confidence in your flesh

We deny our confidence in our flesh by admitting that there dwells nothing good in it so that we get our soul out of the world and into the kingdom of God. We have to admit that we can’t do anything, godly, without Jesus. So we have to admit that we can’t handle anything without Jesus in a godly manner.

In Romans 12:2 it is written: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

In Colossians 3:1-4 it is written: If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

How to prepare your heart

When we want to do what is good in the sight of God, we have to prepare our hearts to seek the Lord. We prepare our hearts by arming ourselves with the same thoughts with which Jesus armed Himself.

In 1 Peter 4:1-2 it is written: Therefore since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lust of men, but for the will of God.

And in 1 Chronicles 29:18 it is written: O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and fix their heart toward You.

And in Psalm 10:17 it is also written: Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble, You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may oppress no more.

How to resist the enemy

To resist the enemy, we have to submit ourselves to God and His word and His Spirit so that we can receive grace to overcome the enemy and all that he will throw to us.

In James 4:6-8 it is written: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

And in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 it is also written: My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

How to take each day at a time

When we keep our positive memories alive, we will keep our hearts knit to the Lord with His omniscience, almightiness, faithfulness, and unconditional love for us. When we know the love of the father and remember how much He has forgiven us and given to us, in and through Christ Jesus, then, we wouldn’t turn our back to the Lord for the lust of men and we don’t worry for the future.

So by getting our soul out of this world, by preparing our hearts to seek God’s will, by resisting the enemy and all that he throws to us and by trusting the Lord, we will overcome every lust of men.
