Two kinds of knowledge

Two kinds of knowledge

To know and to understand the world we live in, we have to make use of two kinds of knowledge. We have the sense knowledge and the revelation knowledge.

Sense knowledge is the knowledge that we obtain through sense perception. While revelation knowledge is the knowledge that we receive from God’s Spirit by grace through faith.

In John 16:12-15 it is written: I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth: for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

We will see that both kinds of knowledge have their sphere of work. Sense knowledge is the knowledge that our brain receives when information comes to it through the five senses.

Revelation knowledge is the knowledge that our brain receives when information comes to it by God’s grace through faith.

The mind as our central processing unit

Our conscious mind works as a central processing unit throughout the day. It receives its information from the senses and produces sense knowledge. It also receives its information from our spirit who has received revelation knowledge through its relationship with God, in and through Christ Jesus.

When we put our faith and desire on the knowledge in our conscious mind it goes into our subconscious mind or as the Bible says, into our heart.

The sense of using sense knowledge

Sense knowledge is necessary to become aware of the condition of our life circumstances. Through our five senses, we get sense perception that becomes the sense knowledge for our conscious mind.

By this, we become aware of our natural reality so that we can choose to take the right actions to change our natural reality, if necessary.

All the knowledge that is taught in schools has been gained through our five senses and that’s why it is called sense knowledge. When a man reaches the limits of this sense knowledge he becomes a philosopher or guesser.

The sense of using revelation knowledge

Man has never been able to know God through the five senses and that’s why sense knowledge cannot give the reason for creation and acknowledge God as the source of life.

With sense knowledge, you never will find God and come to know Him. Only through revelation knowledge, which you receive through Gods word and Spirit, you will come to know God and His ideas.

Revelation knowledge is also necessary to become aware of our legal status, in Christ Jesus, that God has planned for us.

Through faith, we get faith perception that becomes the revelation knowledge for our spirit and for our conscious mind, through our spirit

By this, we become aware of our spiritual reality (legal status in Christ Jesus) so that we can choose to take the right actions to declare God’s word about our lives and/or to decree God’s word over our lives when the natural reality doesn’t seem to be the manifestation of our spiritual reality (our legal status in Christ Jesus).

Conclusions

We need both kinds of knowledge. We need sense knowledge to understand natural things and we need revelation knowledge to receive and understand spiritual things. The user of sense knowledge alone cannot understand spiritual things and is, therefore, in God’s sight, dead for spiritual things.
