Witnessing Jesus Christ – Become an effective witness

Witnessing Jesus Christ – Become an effective witness

To witness Jesus Christ you have to know how to become an effective witness to Christ Jesus. A witness is someone who attests to a fact with his words.

A witness to Christ Jesus is someone who attests with his words and life that Jesus is the God who saves. So to be an effective witness to Christ, that person’s words and life has to have to be a source of light.

Words as source of life and light

Gods word is the truth and it is the source of life and light. In John 1:1-9 it is written: In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through Him, and without Him, nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through Him might believe. He was not that Light but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

Here we can see that Jesus, the Living Word of God, is the source of life and light. In John 14:6, Jesus said to His disciples: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. And in John 6:63 He also said: The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Holy Spirit as Witness

The Holy Spirit, who has been sent to us as our Paraclete, He will testify of Jesus, together with us. In John 15:26-27 it is written: But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

And in Acts 1:8 it is written: But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

And in Acts 5:30-32 it is also written: The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.

Bearing fruits

To witness to Jesus means that we express His mindset and vocabulary through our words, deeds, and life circumstances. In other words, we give Him space to continue with His life and work through us.

In John 15:4-5 it is written: Abide in Me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing.

When we abide in Christ while He abides in us, we will manifest the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit. In Galatians 5:22-23 it is written: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such, there is no law.

In 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 it is also written: But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

5 Things to do to become an effective witness

  1. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. When you want to witness to Christ Jesus, you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to witness effectively.
  2. Pray for wisdom and stamina. We need wisdom and stamina to use every problem as an opportunity in disguise to witness to Jesus.
  3. Be authentic. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care for them.
  4. Ask people about their feelings and thoughts. Ask people how they feel and what they think and win their sympathy with empathy; win their trust with gracious words; win their loyalty with gracious deeds. But, be authentic.
  5. Ask people to make a decision. Ask them if they want to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

To be effective witnesses to Jesus we need to be people who are full of Jesus so that we can reflect His nature and potential to reign in life so that we can be the light of the world and salt of the earth.
